Adolescent Services

Our Adolescent Services provide evidence-based care for youth ranging from ages 11–18, utilizing data-driven support to deliver fast, efficient, and proven results for those navigating complex behavioral challenges such as defiance, aggression, substance use, delinquency, or antisocial behaviors.

  • MST is a 3–5 month, evidence-based intervention that meets 3-5 times per week. It provides a 24/7 community-based alternative to incarceration for youth ages 12–17 by addressing the root causes of behavioral issues within their home, school, and social environments.

    • Defiance and verbal aggression

    • Physical aggression with people and property

    • Delinquency and truancy charges

    • Substance use

    • Poor school performance

  • By integrating intensive family therapy, parent training, and crisis intervention within a 12-17 year-old youth’s natural environment, MST-PSB identifies the environmental root causes of problematic behaviors to equip support systems with a sustainable action plan for reducing sexual offenses and ensuring long-term community safety. This program is designed for youth in need of SOMB treatment whose primary caregivers or family members are active participants in their care. This program lasts approximately 5-7 months, meeting 3 times per week.

    Please note that this specific program is not eligible for Medicaid reimbursement.

    Referral Behaviors:

    • Youth who have inappropriate and/or illegal touching or sexual behaviors

    • Adjudicated or voluntary youth

    • Youth in need of SOMB treatment

  • FFT is a short-term intervention that strengthens family relationships for at-risk youth ages 11–18 by transforming communication and reducing conflict at home through a structured five-phase process. This program lasts approximately 3-4 months and meets 1 time per week.

    • Poor school performance

  • Building on the proven FFT methodology, FFT-G is an evidence-informed extension for youth ages 11–18 who are gang-involved or at high risk, combining traditional family therapy with a deep focus on disrupting criminal peer dynamics and local gang influences. This program lasts approximately 3-4 months and meets 1 time per week, however there may be more frequent contact initially.

    Referral Behaviors:

    • Any FFT criteria met

    • At risk of becoming gang involved

    • Youth currently associated/affiliated with a gang

    • Families with intergenerational gang involvement

  • HFW is an evidence-based process for 12-17 year-old youth stepping down from residential care. This program empowers youth with complex behavioral needs to thrive at home by uniting multiple care providers and families around a single, streamlined plan driven by the family’s own voice and choice. This program runs over the course of approximately 12 months.

    • Needing transitional support

    • Issues with school

    • Mental health concerns

    • Juvenile system involvement

  • Designed to bridge the gap between clinical interventions, CBS-Skills Coaching empowers youth ages 10–18 through strengths-based, goal-focused mentoring to achieve long-term community and family resilience. This program meets 1-3 times per week; it can vary based on level of service needed.

    Referral Behaviors:

    • Skill building needed around coping, employment/resume building, anger management, mentoring, prosocial skills, and/or community activities

    • Caregivers looking for support in establishing structure and routine

Family Wellness

Our Family Wellness programs utilize research-proven approaches to support parents and children, primarily ages 0–12, who are system-involved or navigating high-risk situations. We equip caregivers with practical tools to ensure child safety and nurture deeper, healthier attachments, directly improving a child’s emotional regulation and behavioral success.

  • Child First is a national, evidence-based, two-generation model that provides intensive home-based mental health services to children ages 0-5 and their families facing unhealthy stress or trauma. This program concurrently connects families to essential community resources. Child First consists of weekly sessions for approximately 12-14 months.

    Referral Behaviors:

    • High-risk families with a child or children ages 0-5.

    • Children with behavioral issues, developmental delays, or social-emotional challenges.

    • Exposure to trauma, violence, or abuse/neglect.

    • Caregiver mental health challenges

    • Incarceration of a caregiver or separation from primary caregivers.

    This service is available in the following Colorado counties: Adams, Boulder, Broomfield, El Paso, Teller

  • SafeCare is a voluntary, home-based program for parents of children ages 0-5 that focuses on building practical parenting skills and preventing abuse or neglect. This program consists of 6-7 module sessions on topics such as safety, health, and parent/child interaction; sessions are expected to be completed over 18-21 weeks.

    Referral Behaviors:

    • Parents/caregivers that require support in improving child interactions, enhancing home safety, or increasing knowledge of child health

    • Parents/caregivers at-risk of abuse and neglect cases

    • Families involved in the child welfare system

    • Parents/caregivers looking for support in baby proofing living space

    The SafeCare Prevention Program is only available in Denver County.

    SafeCare for court-involved families is available in the following counties: Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Clear Creek, Denver, Douglas, El Paso, Elbert, Fremont, Gilpin, Jefferson, Larimer, Pueblo, Teller, Weld

  • FIT Court is a collaborative program within the judicial system designed to support families where child abuse or neglect is tied to parental substance use; the the goal is to empower families toward long-term recovery and heal the relationships between parents and their children.

    We currently only accept referrals through the 1st and 18th judicial court districts. Please reach out to referrals@saviocolorado.org to learn more about this program.

  • This early intervention service is designed to stabilize families at risk for further Child Welfare involvement.

    Services include:

    • Crisis intervention

    • Connection to sustainable community resources

    • Parenting skill development

    • Counseling and therapeutic services as needed

    Our program provides in-home visits with three distinct levels of intensity: Low (2–3 hours per week), Moderate (4–6 hours per week), and High (7–9 hours per week). Depending on the specific needs of the family, the typical length of stay ranges from one to four months. This program may not be Medicaid eligible, but each referral will be assessed.

  • Savio provides supervised visitation led by a dedicated therapist, with the primary goal of strengthening a caregiver's capacity to parent safely and eventually reducing the need for supervision. These visits can take place at county offices, within the community, or directly in the home, as determined by the County Department of Human Services and current court orders.

    Please note that this specific program is not eligible for Medicaid reimbursement.

  • This program is for families where safety concerns are present in the home or caregivers (parent, kin or foster) need support in caring for the children. Family Wellness -Community Based Services are a fit when children are home or the goal is reunification. Programming aim is to mitigate safety concerns by developing protective capacities and/or improving parenting skills to stabilize placement.

    Available for families experiencing:

    • Substance misuse

    • Domestic violence

    • Abuse and neglect

    • Relationship issues in the family

    FW-CBS takes place over 2-3 weekly in-home visits with an average length of 6 months.

    This program may not be Medicaid eligible, but each referral will be assessed.

Trauma Services

Our Trauma Services provide comprehensive support for children of all ages and their caregivers who are facing the complex aftermath of exposure to situations such as abuse, violence, or grief. These models utilize specialized interventions to transform symptoms like emotional dysregulation, aggression, and substance misuse into improved communication and emotional security, preventing the need for hospitalization, legal involvement, or out-of-home placement.

  • TST is a comprehensive treatment model for individuals ages 4-21. This program addresses both the young person’s emotional regulation and the social environment in which they live. It focuses on identifying "survival states" triggered by traumatic memories and coordinates care between multidisciplinary teams to ensure they feel safe and supported in their community. This program consists of weekly sessions over the course of approximately 7-9 months.

    Referral Behaviors:

    • Children or adolescents who exhibit survival-based behaviors (e.g., fight, flight, or freeze) triggered by the interaction between their trauma history and current environmental stressors

    This service is available in the following counties: Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Clear Creek, Denver, Douglas, El Paso, Elbert, Fremont, Gilpin, Jefferson, Larimer, Pueblo, Teller, Weld

  • TF-CBT is a short-term, evidence-based intervention designed specifically for children and adolescents 3-18 years old who are experiencing post-traumatic stress, often following abuse or violence. The model integrates cognitive behavioral techniques with family therapy, helping both the child and their non-offending caregivers develop healthy coping skills and process traumatic experiences. This program meets 1 time per week over approximately 16-18 sessions total.

    Referral Behaviors:

    • Exhibiting problematic behaviors specifically related to trauma experiences

    This service is available in the following counties: Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Clear Creek, Denver, Douglas, El Paso, Elbert, Fremont, Gilpin, Jefferson, Larimer, Pueblo, Teller, Weld

  • EMDR is an 8-phase psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the emotional distress and symptoms resulting from traumatic memories using bilateral stimulation (like eye movements) while recalling, which enables the brain to reprocess and heal. Savio’s EMDR program serves children 4-18 years old. This program meets 1 time per week for 6-12 weeks.

    Referral Behaviors:

    • Signs of an overwhelmed nervous system that appear as emotional dysregulation, acting out, or regression

    • Avoidance behaviors

    • Physical and physiological symptoms like sleep issues, somatic/body ache complaints, and hyperarousal

    • Academic and social difficulties

    • Having experienced or witnessed a traumatic event

    These services are available in the following Colorado counties: Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Clear Creek, Denver, Douglas, El Paso, Elbert, Fremont, Gilpin, Jefferson, Larimer, Pueblo, Teller, Weld

  • The TSAI program utilizes trauma-focused and client-centered approaches to help children and adolescents ages 6–18 recover from the psychological and emotional impacts of sexual abuse. This program is also specifically designed to address boundary concerns for SAI and a history of trauma that is currently impacting functioning, while also supporting youth who may be in need of Sex Offender Management Board (SOMB) treatment.

    By providing a safe space for processing and healing, these interventions aim to reduce traumatic stress symptoms and improve resilience over a treatment course that typically runs 6–8 months on average, with sessions meeting 1–3 times per week. Youth referred to this program may be currently in an out-of-home placement or united with their family of origin; treatment is focused primarily on individual processing.

    • Youth who have inappropriate and/or illegal touching behaviors

    • Boundary concerns

    • Past trauma that is currently hindering daily activities

    • In need of SOMB treatment
