Internships
After years of studying theories, it’s finally time to start working with people in the real world! Your internship is the moment where your skills start to shine. We know this phase comes with a lot of new challenges, from keeping up with paperwork to understanding the best way to help every family.
Our goal is to give you the support and expert guidance you need to feel prepared. We provide a clear structure that helps you sharpen your competencies and officially launch your professional career.
Our Program
What You Need to Know
The Basics
Age: You must be at least 21 years old.
School Partnership: You must be currently enrolled in a college or university program. This ensures you are covered by your school’s insurance and malpractice protection.
Flexible Start Times & Duration Unlike many agencies that only hire during the fall, Savio is ready when you are! You can start your internship at any point during the year. Since every school has different requirements, we will work with you upfront to create a schedule that fits your unique program’s needs.
Where and When We Work Most of Savio’s services take place right in the clients' homes. This approach is a great way to see real-life dynamics in everyday settings and eliminate barriers to treatment. You’ll also need a flexible weekday schedule—because we meet families when they are available, some of your clinical hours may also happen during evenings or weekends.
*Please note that we are unable to accommodate weekend-only schedules. To effectively serve our families and meet with children, clinical hours typically take place during weekday afternoons and evenings (after-school hours).
Clinical Exposure
Savio works with every stage of child development, from infancy through emerging adulthood. Whatever your clinical interest, we can provide a path to explore it. During the interview process, we’ll review our current programs and current openings together to make a collaborative decision on which team and model best fit your goals.
Our work is centered on the whole family. Through this lens, you will build a deep understanding of both individual needs and the complex dynamics of interpersonal relationships. Because many of the families we help are underserved or facing significant crises, your role makes a clear, tangible difference from day one.
There is no greater day at work than watching a family move from feeling lost to achieving measurable, lasting change during your time with them.
Setting You Up for Success
We know you have big dreams, and we’re set on helping you achieve them. We go beyond providing hours. We’re committed to building the foundation of your career, from Savio to beyond our doors.
Our structured program offers a graduated learning experience that includes three phases growing from shadowing to facilitation. There is a heavy emphasis on high-quality clinical supervision; rather than being thrown into the deep end, you will be supported through a deliberate onboarding process that prioritizes your confidence and competence. There’s no need to feel more overwhelm as you transition into active clinical work.
Because Savio operates with a wide range of programs and clinicians from diverse professional backgrounds—LCSWs to LPCs to LMFTs and more—we have the unique ability to match you internally with mentors who can share insights on your specific aims.
