Thank You for Supporting Family Needs!

Due to the overwhelming response to our Back to School Drive, Savio is launching a Family Needs Committee. This group will work to provide access to things that many of Savio’s low-income families find just out of reach such as a new outfit for the first day of school, holiday presents, or a fun family experience.

With the generous support of community members, Savio students were able to start of the new school year feeling confident and prepared. As most parents are all too aware, students were extra anxious about returning to school this fall. After a year of virtual learning, ever-changing COVID 19 policies and procedures, and a lot of uncertainty, students deserved to feel prepared and excited for the first day of school. Savio put out a request to our community to help make this possible, and your response was unbelievable.

Students were able to submit a wish list that included any of the items that would make them feel confident and ready to go back to school. Some students requested a first-day outfit, the fees for their soccer team, or a new pair of shoes that they would be able to wear all year.

Over 130 students submitted a wish list, and every single one of them was paired with a community member who helped provide the items on the list.

Savio families work very hard at the therapies that will allow for their long-term stability and success. For many of Savio's low-income families, a new outfit for the first day just wasn’t in the budget. A child's anxiety over their appearance and a parent's frustration about not being able to provide these items can prevent the family from focusing on their treatment plan.

By providing families with items that boost children’s self-confidence and allow for parents a little bit of stress relief our community showed how something that many of us take for granted can change a family’s outlook on returning to school.

Thank you to all who were paired with a student to provide their wish items for the new year!

Interested in volunteering to help families in need?

The generosity and support from members of our community has inspired Savio to launch a Family Needs Committee. This group will be dedicated to proving families with items that will help to provide them with joy and hope as they face incredibly challenging issues such as mental and behavioral health concerns. The group will help to organize our annual “Adopt a Family” program around the holidays, leverage their personal networks to connect Savio with others who are interested in supporting children and families, and serve as advocates for Savio’s mission.

There will be a virtual informational meeting on October 12, 2021 at 9:00 am. If you are interested in learning more, please contact Robyn Meeks at 720-974-6204 or rmeeks@saviohouse.org to receive the link for the meeting.
