Colorado Springs Gazette As a recovering addict - clean and sober for more than 10 years - when I had my relapse, I lost more than my sobriety, peace of mind and an excellent credit score. I lost my precious little 5-year-old boy, my only child. Battling an all-consuming vicious addiction that took me to prison in a long-forgotten past, I believed the rumors of the Department of Human Services, the monster that takes your children. Well, I'm here to testify I can never pay back the transformation that has taken place in my life. My son and I are reunited and I am well into recovery with a brand new set of coping skills, parenting skills and a renewed confidence and serenity, and a mutual respect between my son and me. I have a new appreciation for life and a second chance at motherhood. I want to express my gratitude to DHS and Savio House for giving my son the mom he deserves. |
