Savio Stories

Seven-year-old Alex's* family was referred to Savio by the courts because his mother was using drugs. He was placed in a foster home at the beginning where he received care for issues arising from neglect and his mother received intensive treatment for her substance abuse. She also worked with a counselor to learn effective parenting skills so that she and Alex could be reunited for good.

One night, on the way to a supervised visit, little Alex said to the counselor, "I'm so excited to see my mom!" When the counselor asked him why, his energetic response was, "She's the mom I've always wanted."

After a lot of work by Alex and his mother along with dedicated and caring therapists and counselors at Savio, the two of them were reunited for good. Three years later, she is still the mom he always wanted - one who nurtures and cares for her fun-loving ten-year-old boy, a boy with hope for the future.
