Youthful Offender System - Savio YOS Program The Savio House YOS Program serves paroled youth who are transitioning from incarceration through the Youthful Offender System. Eligible youth are those who have completed Phases I and II and are ready to participate in the final phase, the Youth Offender Community Release Program or Phase III. Residents are referred to Savio House due to their need for mandatory structured and therapeutic aftercare services. The goal of the CBS program is to successfully reintegrate previously incarcerated youth with emancipation and/or family services to prevent recidivism, prepare the youth for a pro-social lifestyle, and to encourage the youth to live in a law-abiding manner. These goals are achieved through the implementation of services, utilizing a parent-centered / child-focused model, designed to meet the individual needs of each youth. Services are geared toward successful reunification if the youth is returning to his or her family. In contrast, an emancipating youth would receive assistance with establishing his or her own home environment and gaining independent living skills. In addition, all Residents are provided with services that meet the special needs of previously incarcerated youth who are returning to the community, including therapeutic services, skills development, mentoring and monitoring. Interactions and interventions focus on relapse and re-offense prevention and include cognitive-behavioral strategies to confront antisocial attitudes. Savio staff reintegrate the youth by reconnecting him or her with the family and community. Ties with family and other supportive persons are reestablished so that the youth has a positive network to assist in the reintegration process. Residents are taught the skills and values necessary to function successfully within the family unit, community and society. Youth are guided toward self-reliance, whether reuniting with the family or emancipating. For more information contact: Diane Melancon, CBS Adolescent Coordinator, 303-225-4116 |
